June 14, 1999 Trade Sites Graded Keynote Systems Inc., a consulting firm that tracks Web-site performance, has issued report cards for online brokerages, using a new metric for measuring how well they handle a typical stock order. Relative unknowns Brown & Co. and Scottrade top the rankings, while more widely known E-Trade Group is next-to-last overall--failing to complete one of every five stock trades. However, E-Trade's problems don't appear to be hurting its position in the market. A survey released last week by Credit Suisse First Boston indicates that E-Trade handles more trades than any other house aside from Charles Schwab & Co. Below are results for June 1 to 4.
