August 2, 1999 Field Of Streams The Internet has helped a lot of businesses field new revenue streams. Add to that list baseball's Baltimore Orioles. The team has tapped UltraStar Internet Services and American Cities Studios to offer full dial-up Net access, including E-mail and exclusive content, over its Web site. The $14.95 monthly fee is 20% below the average for Net access alone. Subscribers will get chat sessions with players and coaches, photos, and special merchandise and ticket offers. "We're going to give people stuff they can't get from being behind home plate," says Spiro Alafassos, director of ballpark entertainment for the Orioles. The idea is a first for a baseball club, but follows a similar move by football's Baltimore Ravens. |
