Encrypt your home network with WPA2, if possible.

Avoid peer-to-peer connections, like the Linksys one in this example.  Select the option to only access infrastructure networks.  Disable automatic connections on your wireless network.  Encrypt your home network with WPA2, if possible.  Use a different wireless frequency than your neighbors use.  Turn off file shares while traveling.
