When the time comes to activate XP, choose the telephone option. You'll need to call Microsoft to get your downgrade activation key.

When you boot your XP CD, this is the first screen you'll encounter. Hit Enter to proceed.  Make sure to select your C: partition, unless you've created a new partition for a dual-boot setup.  You should be able to quick-format your C: drive so it's cleared out to make way for XP.  The point of no return. Press F only if you're sure you want to reformat your hard drive.  When the time comes to activate XP, choose the telephone option.
