Michael Duffy, CIO, Department of the Treasury
Michael Duffy has been the Treasury Department's deputy assistant secretary for information systems and CIO for just over a year, leading this major department's IT policy planning, security, and e-government initiatives.
Among Treasury's recent projects is the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System, which lets people and businesses pay federal taxes by phone and online, saving the time and money associated with processing paper forms. The department has also developed TreasuryDirect, which lets investors buy and manage Treasury securities online. And Treasury's Electronic Fraud Detection System has detected hundreds of millions of dollars of fraudulent tax rebate claims. Prior to joining Treasury, Duffy was deputy CIO at the Department of Justice. During his 15 years at Justice, he directed the development and implementation of the agency's law enforcement and counterterrorism information sharing strategy, and the deployment of the Integrated Wireless Network, a multiagency tactical wireless communications system. |
