HP and Microsoft unveiled the device in advance of Apple's tablet PC, widely expected to be announced in late January. Apple has yet to confirm its working on such a product.  Dell's tablet PC concept shown at CES 2010 has a five-inch display and is being marketed as a companion device to a PC. Entry into the tablet PC/slate market pushes Dell beyond its traditional role as a seller of consumer and business PCs.  TechCrunch's Michael Arrington announced in July 2009 that he had established a company to build a 12-inch, Linux-based tablet for surfing the Web, watching online video, and using e-mail. In November, the month it had been expected, Arrington canceled the tablet's introduction. Popular Mechanics named it one of the   Fusion Garage's imminent tablet-like device weighs 2.4 lbs and has a 12.1-inch multi-touch capacitive screen.   This hybrid laptop is either a clamshell notebook or a multi-touch slate table, each with its own processor and operating system. The device has an 11.6-inch display and weighs 3.8 pounds. When the display is attached to the body of the system, the unit operates like a typical notebook running Microsoft Windows 7. With a flip of a switch, however, the display detaches and becomes a multi-touch slate tablet running a Linux-based operating system. The tablet weighs 1.6 pounds. The IdeaPad U1 is scheduled to be available June 1 2010. The estimated retail price is $999.  This 10.2-inch multi-touch Screen 3G GPS slate claims to be the   HP EliteBook 2740p
