Lexical data analysis for e-mail messages and attachments is now available to Postini E-mail Security and Google Apps Premier Edition customers.
Google's Postini on Tuesday announced new policy management capabilities for its e-mail security service. The enhancements, available at no extra cost, aim to better protect sensitive personal and business information.
The new features, said Scott Petry, founder of Postini and director of product management at Google, help simplify the management of communications compliance for customers. They are available to Postini E-mail Security and Google Apps Premier Edition customers.
Postini now offers lexical data analysis for e-mail messages and attachments. This provides e-mail administrators with the option of identifying credit card and social security numbers, for example, and triggering automatic policy enforcement rules as deemed appropriate.
E-mail administrators can also craft custom policy rules using regular expression syntax -- a way to match specific text strings or a range of text strings -- that can trigger message blocking, encryption, the sending of a message copy to a manager, or a quarantine until the message can be reviewed.
Postini also said that it had improved its virus detection and anti-spam capabilities.
According to Proofpoint, another e-mail security vendor, 89% of the e-mail messages it processed for corporate clients in October were spam, down from 91% in September.
Finally, Postini is offering new message archiving management tools to Postini Message Archiving Customers and Google Apps Premier Edition users for an additional fee. For example, Postini archiving customers now have access to a self-service option for restoring messages from archives so that corporate e-mail users don't have to burden IT staff with requests for old messages.
