Government Watch: Whither Web Services

Nearly half of companies building Web-services applications have reduced spending on the projects because of the slow economy, according to research firm Gartner. But none has abandoned its work. An online survey of 111 North American companies shows a strong commitment to the set of emerging technologies. More than half say they're using, or plan to use, Web services over the next 12 months for tying together disparate IT systems within the organization and with partners and customers. Over the next 24 months, 65% of the organizations surveyed plan to use Web services for these purposes.
