Dave, I wonder if it also has to do with a sense of helping your community specifically, beyond just general altruism. These groups could gather in person, an important thing in today's virtual world.

Creative pairings
20-somethings and 50-somethings can certainly come up with different approaches to problems. Pairing them on an internal contest sounds like a recipe for creative results.

What is it that you think these civic challenges or contests do differently than other crowdsourcing models? There are lots of concepts of how to do it, but is the notion here to somehow tap into a sense of altruism in the process?
