First of five new science satellites on Earth-observing missions will provide real-time observations of rain and snow every three hours.

Climate change
As suppose NASA will use the data collected by the satellites not only to study climate change, as NASA has said, but also to find solutions on what to do about it before it's too late.

Using data to better predict weather
We were forecasted to get upwards of 10" of snow during the last storm, and our town cancelled school the night before. We ended up getting just 3" of snow. If these missions can help better assess storms, I'm all for that.
