In unveiling the EliteBook 8730w mobile workstation with a DreamColor display, HP also introduced the less expensive EliteBook 8530w mobile workstation and the EliteBook 8530p notebook PC. In addition, HP released the 24-inch DreamColor LP2480zx professional monitor.
The EliteBook 8730w is built for the most sophisticated graphics-intensive applications, HP said. The mobile workstation includes a 17-inch screen capable of displaying 16 million colors versus the 260,000 on conventional notebooks. The new workstation is also available with an Intel quad-core processor, 8 GB of memory, and Nvidia's Quadro FX graphics card with up to 1 GB of video memory.
The 8530w and 8530p have professional graphics capabilities in a smaller size, HP said. Both systems target users in fields such as animation, video production, broadcasting, photography, design, and engineering. The systems include a 15.4-inch high-resolution display, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, and 8 GB of memory. The 8530w is available with a quad-core Intel processor.
The 24-inch LP2480zx is a 30-bit, LED-backlit widescreen. In addition to the DreamColor display, HP also introduced two LCD screens for the professional market, the 24-inch LP2475w and the 22-inch LP2275w widescreen monitors.
The EliteBook 8730w is set for availability this month at a starting price of $1,699. The EliteBook 8530 series is scheduled to ship in September. Pricing starts at $1,499.
The LP2480zx DreamColor display sells for $3,299. The LP2275w is available for $459. The larger LP2475w is scheduled to ship in September and cost $649.
