Make Your Office Equipment Work For You
Look around your office, and you'll likely notice there's a lot going on: electricity powering lights and computers and reams of paper stacked up, to name just a few. This can often be the simplest place to start your green efforts.
1. See all that paper? Make it work twice as hard for you.
Here are instructions for how to instruct your printer to print on both sides of the paper. And clip together any extraneous one-sided sheets for scratch paper, thus reducing your need to buy legal pads.
2. Speaking of paper, think twice before printing at all, and encourage your staff to do the same. Create rewards for departments that use the least amount of paper. But if you do use the printer, make sure it's stocked with Earth-friendly ink,
found here. And to go one step further, invest in a multifunction printer,
like any one of these, which also scans, copies, faxes, e-mails, and saves files to your network. That will save space as well as lower your energy bill.
3. Turn it off! Invest in
power management software to ensure machines are shut off each night. Check out how to activate power management features
here. Also, communicate with staff to make sure the last person out checks that all the lights (energy-efficient ones, of course, which cost a bit more but also last a lot longer) and equipment are shut off.
4. Still using batteries? At least make sure they're rechargeable. Make charging stations available to staff. This is another instance in which a small investment pays for itself quickly, so go
here for your questions answered and to purchase.
