InfoSpace Provides Virgin Mobile With A Mobile Search Platform

Service provider InfoGin is also supplying key Web-to-mobile content in the application.

InfoSpace has scored an important customer contract by supplying the United Kingdom's Virgin Mobile with InfoSpace's suite of mobile platform services.

The partnership announced on Monday includes a mobile search feature built on technology from FAST Search & Transfer.

The services let users search Web and WAP sites including Virgin Mobile's portal and storefront. Service provider InfoGin also is supplying key Web-to-mobile content in the application.

Much of the content is aimed at entertainment for the young subscribers among Virgin Mobile's 4 million users. Said Nick White, Virgin Mobile's head of digital services, in a statement: "Virgin Mobile is a firm believer that there should be no limit to the content available for our users -- from the latest celeb gossip to searches for entertainment in the local area or even the most cryptic piece of trivia -- it must be available to everyone, everywhere."

InfoSpace also provides mobile search services to Sprint, which supplies infrastructure to Virgin Mobile customers in the United States. Monday's announcement of the deal with Virgin Mobile in the United Kingdom made no mention of the U.S. operation of Virgin Mobile.
