The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has selected Accenture as a prime contractor on its 10-year, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity CDC Information Management Services (CIMS) contract that will be used to acquire IT services and solutions worth up to $4 billion to support CDC's global public health initiatives.

Under CIMS, Accenture will compete for work in two areas -- information management services and IT infrastructure services -- with ceiling values of $3 billion and $1 billion, respectively, over the 10-year period.

According to the CDC, the scope of work under information management services includes planning, design, development, maintenance, engineering, integration, and retirement of information systems; collection, analysis, and management of data, information, and knowledge; health IT, public health informatics; graphics and web design; technical writing and editing; information security; and project and program management support.

Under IT infrastructure services, the scope of work includes design, installation, management, and support of networks, servers, computers, telecommunications, conferencing services, and information security systems; data center operations; and help desk services.

"With this award, we intend to help CDC achieve its mission more effectively by leveraging the same high-quality information management, application, and infrastructure capabilities we provide to some of the world's largest health organizations."

To help CDC meet its goals of protecting the public health and promoting quality of life through the prevention and control of disease, injury and disability, Accenture will draw on its public and private sector healthcare experience, the firm said. Among the capabilities and solutions that Accenture may deliver to CDC are health IT, disease management, predictive analytics, health information exchanges, network systems design, information security services, and infrastructure managed services.

In September, CDC awarded Lockheed Martin a larger contract worth up to $5 billion to compete for task orders in all three of the CDC CIMS domain areas: IT infrastructure, information management, and management consulting services.

Under management consulting services CDC is requesting that companies provide business analysis; performance management; process improvement; business process reengineering; decision support and analytics; program vulnerability and risk assessment; continuity of operations planning; project and program management; strategic planning; organizational study and design; transformation and change management; human capital and workforce analysis; training; and communications.
