Wipro Technologies has opened a new UK headquarters in London and expanded its suburban Reading facility to add centers of excellence and support customer projects. With 26% of its revenue coming from Europe, Wipro needed to enhance its regional capabilities and decided to focus on the UK since it is home to several major Wipro customers.Wipro Technologies CIO Laxman Badiga, quoted in the Economic Times of India, said:
"Taking on the ownership of the facility at Reading is the first of its kind for Wipro overseas and hence makes this occasion special. The Reading center started with just one floor and had a little over 30 employees when we began. The expansion in Reading and opening of the new office in London has only reinforced our commitment to the region."
To achieve its growth objectives in Europe and also elsewhere around the globe, Wipro will be looking to ongoing counsel from newly named board member Henning Kagermann, the former CEO of SAP AG, who will join Wipro's board Oct 27.
Also quoted in the Economic Times, Kagermann emphasized his perception of Wipro's innovative business models:
"I have for long admired Wipro as a company as much for its innovative approach to business as for its strong commitment to values. I am excited at the prospect of guiding the company as it prepares for its next phase of growth."
