JDA Software plans to acquire Manugistics Group for about $211 million in cash in a deal that will provide a $390 million-a-year supply chain and revenue management company.

Manugustics had been struggling in recent quarters -- it lost $4.6 million in its third quarter -- but the Maryland-based firm said earlier this week that it expects to report a profit in its fourth quarter.

The firms said their combined company will have more than 5,500 customers and will offer a coherent supply-demand chain optimization solution that spans manufacturer's plants to consumers.

"Only JDA can bring the product, market, and industry leadership proposition that will position Manugistics for a new era of growth," said Hamish Brewer, JDA CEO, in a statement Monday.
