COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Juniper Networks Inc. is acquiring security software company Funk Software Inc. in a cash transaction valued at $122 million.

Funk (Cambridge, Mass.) was founded in 1982 by security expert Paul Funk. It was an early pioneer in Radius and AAA authentication server software, and has expanded into wireless LAN security clients.

Funk has supported the Trusted Network Connect layer of open standards from the Trusted Computing Group, and Juniper pledged Monday (Nov. 14) to adhere to TCG standards for network security.

RSA Security Inc., a partner of both Juniper and Funk, lauded the acquisition as a step in providing better end-to-end security environments.

Juniper anticipates the acquisition will close in December, subject to antitrust regulations. The company has not announced anticipated employee layoffs or facilities consolidation, though Juniper already maintains significant Boston-area development sites through its earlier acquisition of Unisphere.
