Letters To The Editor

Back To Business
Fifteen years ago, I had a good career developing line-of-business information systems using a then-modern 4GL ("Influencer Visions: 'Magic' Formula Hasn't Changed," Jan. 27, p. 76).

Then the Internet showed up, the Web, and Y2K. We forgot that developing good, effective, valuable systems requires understanding the real needs of real people. We became enamored of technology for its own sake.

Well, the old times are back and the ability to fashion systems that support the real work done by real people is valued.

Call For Diversity
I was disappointed to see that your Jan. 27 cover, "Where We're Headed," featured a sea of white male faces. With 31 white men, three white women, and one African American, apparently "where we're headed" is where we've been all along.

Corrections

  • "Server Slowdown," (Feb. 3, p. 24) should have said that Purdue University spent $150,000 for hardware and software to comply with INS regulations.
  • Nextel Communications' CIO Dick LeFave's name was misspelled in "Telecom's New Attitude" (Feb. 3, p. 45).
  • "Vendors Sharpen Blade Offerings" (Feb. 3, p. 54) should have said RLX Technologies will debut in March a fifth-generation blade server with two Xeon chips.
