I don't believe consumers have an issue with paying for what they download ("Online Satisfaction May Give Competitive Edge"). But it has to be friendly, easy, and consumer-minded. How can download services expect kids to pay when they don't have credit cards? When will these services consider banked or credited dollars? It would be great for parents to prepay a certain amount that can be applied toward purchases on the service. This would allow kids the flexibility to download when they care to, and it would teach them how to budget. John M. Vellek
Employees Aren't Targets
Frank Quattrone is in trouble because he found out he was about to be charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (the day before it happened) ("Compliance, Kafka, And Criminal Charges"). It was this day-before change of the document-retention policy that's getting him and those in management, who should have known not to obey it, in trouble with the law. The underlings are being pursued to guarantee they testify truthfully against the true target, Mr. Quattrone.
All an employee needs is written direction to change an existing policy. Unless he knows he's committing a crime, he'll have no criminal responsibility. John M. Dosker
