Letters To The Editor

Security Imperative
Microsoft should stop talking about new software for advanced systems and start dealing with the security problems with desktop systems ("Microsoft Details Servers, Search Plans," Aug. 2, p. 24).

If Microsoft doesn't seriously address the security issues in Windows, there will be no home market for Internet use and very little commercial Internet use beyond E-mail. The security issue is getting so serious that it's a threat to the whole Wintel platform.

The problems with Windows aren't rocket science.

Jan Christiansen Prince George, British Columbia

Protectionist Play
Harmony lets a music user transfer a legally acquired piece of music from one device to another ("Apple Threatens RealNetworks," July 29). Therefore, all the tunes I legally acquire for, say, a Palm can be transferred to an iPod when I get fed up with the Palm. Seems like a case of reverse protectionism. Why do I as a consumer want to buy an iPod when the only tunes I can play come from iTunes?

Richard Goulet Goffstown, N.H.

End H-1B Visas
If our IT jobs continue to disappear, why does our government still accept H-1B visas ("IT Jobs Continue To Disappear," July 28)? If employers want to send our jobs overseas, fine, but don't take our jobs in our own back yard.

Sam Soliz Lead Developer, Quest Software, Houston
