No Problems With SP2

I hate to be an outlaw, but my Windows XP Service Pack 2 upgrade went well, and all of my Pinnacle software still works fine ("Real-Life Experiences With XP's SP2," Sept. 6).

Mixed Results

Despite Fred Langa's urging to use caution pertaining to XP SP2, I cautiously downloaded and installed the patch. It completely "killed" my computer, a Dell Dimension 4500.

A tech specialist friend from Microsoft suggested starting in safe mode and uninstalling SP2, but that didn't work. I called Microsoft support and was put on hold. After close to an hour, I hung up and used my Dell restoration disk to repair the operating system.

After the initial installation of SP2 went awry, I went back to the Dell support site and found information on what to do before installing. I then updated the FlashBIOS on my computer, ran anti-malware programs a couple of times, then installed XP2. It worked like a charm and my computer runs fine. However, bootup does take a little longer but, so far, no other problems.

Money Trail

I'd like to see proof of this $1.14 return for every dollar spent on outsourcing ("The Offshore Equation," Sept. 6). For every job outsourced, the IRS doesn't collect a penny for the lost wages.

Bottom line: Follow the money. Bekins customers didn't get it. Bekins employees didn't get it. The Springhill community didn't see a penny of it. Bekins let programmers go, so then the state didn't see any, plus it cost the state unemployment and taxes on wages.
