What if the Doctor has taken undue advantage of the patient's ignorance and cheated him/her and kept the Patient in the dark with regards to his/her condition. How can the patient go for a second opinion with a reliable Doctor if Data is not provided. this is Injustice.

Taking a page from the transparency initiatives at FDA, where pharma companies now must post all clinical trial results, positive and negative, to the clinicaltrials.gov site, there are problems with translating medical and scientific information into terms that consumers and patients can understand. There has always been a gap between physician and patient in regard to terminology...a major problem that is exacerbated by these records, sharing and data silos.

To the last statement that the valid concerns should inform the deisng and maintenance of new systems is a great idea, but what about those that either have a legacy system or are in the midst of evaluating a plethora of EHR options that have yet to incorporate this feature. Wait, or jump in regardless?
