re: iPad 3: 5 Changes I Want
Really, that's all you can come up with? How about the ability to do what YOU want with the device YOU paid for? I'm tired of Apple tell me what I can and cannot do. I can do so much more with an Android as an IT tech than the iToys can. I can't even do basic things like scan for Wi-Fi networks to see what's there and who's stepping on who in the channel hunt game. Apple removed all those apps from their store in the spring of 2010 claiming some sort of unsupported API calls. That's garbage and exactly one of the things that landed MS in court in the 90's. It's time for Apple to let us do what we want with the hardware we bought.
How about the ability to buy/install apps from outside the Apple monopoly? Honestly, the iToys are just that, very expensive toys, great for reading books or browsing the web, but at $500+ I'd rather have a netbook with a real OS on it that I can do what I want when I want to.
How about the ability to change/upgrade batteries (especially since battery life is dismal even on 5.01 compared to 4.x).
You're 100% correct about the dumb proprietary cable. It's just a USB cable that Apple charges $30 for that should be about $1.50 or just lying around the house/office. I have dozens of micro/mini USB cables. Why does Apple have to use proprietary stuff? Because they're so arrogant and their followers are so blind that they can.
When I got (actually was given) my iPad 2, I posted on my FB page to my friends who love Apple to give me the top 10 things I cannot live without on my iPad (running 5.01) and I got Angry Birds and a couple of ebook readers. Hmmm.... I can do that on an Android for 1/2 the cost and a LOT more.
If MS plays their cards right Win8 will kill the iToys. It will run real apps like Office, QuickBooks, etc..., and I won't be told what I can and cannot install. With Jobs gone, Apple's vision is gone with him. What happened the last time Jobs left Apple? This time he can't, and I'm the first to say that his passing was a really sad day for the IT world, can't come to their rescue.
