Is Couchbase really alone in solving this problem?
I'm no mobile-development guru, but I'm thinking there must be other options out there for supporting disconnected-but-syncable mobile apps. Don't know if their joint announcement covers this, but IBM and MongoDB announced last June that they are collaborating on a new standard to give mobile developers the ability to bridge data managed on IBM DB2 systems to mobile apps designed to run on MongoDB. The new mobile standard opens up IBM mobile development options (like Eclipse and Worklight) and enables MongoDB applications to run on DB2. That's not equivalent to the end-to-end Couchbase offering, but it does create a link to enterprise data managed in the SQL world.

We're seeing new titles in this digital revolution, new responsibilities, new business models, and major shifts in technology spending.
