But it wasn't always this way... The rules were changed so that "everything under the sun" could be patented and the USPTO could make a lot of money out of it without any reasonable accountability whatsoever. So the bigest troll seems to be the government and everybody else has to pay for it. And as bad as it is, it's being pushed to other countries in stealth "commercial agreements" such as ACTA...

That sounds like quite an open-ended patent. I guess they can be that vague.

I find it amazing that a patent would be granted for something so nebulous.

It is, unfortunately, far too common. Patent quality has been an issue for years and bad patents aren't usually outed until millions of dollars in legal fees have changed hands.
