Common User Interface
There was one of those but nobody but a few wanted to invest the time and work on it..it was open source from Microsoft, I know I wrote about it many times.  The NHS was into it for a while and a couple small EMR vendors used it..it was very cool..but everyone wanted their own mouse trap.

But now there's Zoectix that connects hospitals, doctors and patients which is the new HIE using Clarity server and APIs.  One of the neat things it does is "create a common user interface" at both ends:)
