Limitations of Hana as a transactional database
It's interesting that Esri ArcGIS can port queries/analyses to Hana but can't run on it as a transactional database. There are other cases where columnar databases aren't particularly good at OLTP, but SAP seems to have worked around those limitations where's it's own transactional apps are concerned. I'm guessing Oracle's 12c In-Memory or IBM DB2 BLU Acceleration could be used for similar in-memory analtyical acceleration while also serving as the transactional database running the ArcGIS server.
