re: IBM Layoffs Exceed 800, Workers Say
The entire offshore work model is flawed and has been from day one. I can't understand why our children are not encouraged into the IT field. But with American companies going cheap all the time, and the kids seeing IT professionals being laid off in large numbers in the US they don't see the value in it. With companies going offshore to pinch pennies and getting poor quality deliverables in return, something has to give. When corruption reigns in the executive ranks, then what trickles down isn't very pleasant. By the way, nobody mentions the many "ghost' bodies that get bid, paid for, and pocketed on big IT deals with offshoring....You can't put 10 pounds of the brown stuff into the 5 pound bag....She just won't go... wake up...there's a cost for everything.....ASK Circuit City...a victim of IBM's offshore model...many internal and external casualties on that debacle but the ones in charge GOT PROMOTED...therein lies the problem....the "lies"...

This does not even include the latest scam to off shore work...the "Liquid Competition". IBM will write specs for "outside" programmers to bid on the coding. In reality, the competitions all go to the same group, so IBM is effectively outsourcing its work to even lower paid foreign "contractors" that will never see IBM benefits, pension, etc.. The loud whirring sound you hear is Tom Watson spinning in his grave. "Respect for the individual" indeed.

IBM will rue the day that this decision to use off shore talent instead of established USA based workers will bring IBM to it's knees. Over 100,000 call center jobs were moved off shore years ago and last week it was admitted on 60 Minutes TV that these off shore call centers often are asked to connect to someone in the USA to get the problem resolved in a timely and cost effective manner. Tonka Toys tried south of the border factories but the defects and sloppy workmenship caused Tonka to return their factorys to the USA. IBM is doomed to relive the past because IBM management and HR didnt do a quality manpower study before religning their workplace members and letting them twist in the wind wondering if they are next !
