Losing credibility costs a lot more than losing just about anything else and from my personal experience it's nearly impossible to get back (think boy who cried wolf). What concerns me most is your one phrase "disinterest in traditional journalistic ethics." To those who think that journalistic ethics are old fashioned: when did it become vogue to abandon integrity? McNealy's now old and famous quote can be repurposed as "honesty is dead, get over it."
