Exciting Times
Big data, wearables, and analytics are fueling so much hope in medicine these days. As I wrote earlier this month, Philips and Accenture are targeting ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease), while Mount Sinai Hospital and Saffron Technology want to improve cardiac care. While all these projects initially focus on one specific condition, future pilots (and full-fledged programs) could relatively easily expand into other diseases or afflictions. In addition, many could be used to help elderly people who want to live at home, granting them more autonomy whle simultaneously reducing financial and staffing pressures.

Wearables
As impressive as wearables have become for consumers, it's their application for health reasons that I think we're going to see the most development in the next few years. They're really a pre-cursor to nanobot injections, so it's exciting seeing the first wave of these begin to become available.

As long as the data is truly anomymised and is opt-in, I'm all for it. It's important that this sort of highly personal data doesn't become fodder for insurance industries.
