re: Yahoo Heroine Mayer Boards Ship Lost In Space
While I applaud Ms. Mayer for her accomplishments thus far, I am not sure I understand why it is generating such widespread public attention. I've stopped counting the number of InformationWeek articles alone dedicated to it since the announcement in addition to other publishers. She certainly is not the first CEO or senior female executive to be pregnant. There have been many in IT younger than she to reach and maintain a position including her old boss at Google, Mason of Groupon and Zuckerberg over at FB to list only a few. Don't get me wrong, for Yahoo's benefit I wish her all the best and overcoming selection alone can be considered an achievement, but shouldn't there be some results before throwing around things like heroine? There are any number of Loebs in the world to obstruct any CEO's best efforts and the role of innovator/engineer differs, if only slightly, from that of primary interface with the investor's and BoD. It feels eerily like the round of applause preceeding FB's IPO or the revoloving door which has been placed in such well known places as HP.
