Interesting stuff. Since this has been written, Tibco Spotfire is surpassing Tableau. Here at Halpenfield, http://www.halpenfield.co.uk we've previously provided a Tableau service, however, Tibco Spotfire has an edge on Tableau in our opinion, in its ability to provide an incredible speed to it's predictive visualisation functions. And it's simplicity of use enables all level of users to gain valuable insight.

I would also recommend Birst http://bir.st/Z4M - a Business Intelligence tool with ad-hoc reporting and dashboards.

This is a great list. May I suggest http://www.inetsoft.com Style Intelligence? They provide data visualization, as well as reporting, data mashup, and data access. I've been having great success with their tools.

Great list of data visualization tools. However, I'd like to recommend Lavastorm data visualization software to your readers as well: http://www.lavastorm.com/solut...

For those of us that like our guidance on choosing advanced visualisation tools to be driven by people that use SW, as opposed to the vendors check out this critique of the Forrestor report and also on Mr Few's website you will find a set of evaluation criteria.

Doug,

Read the post with a lot of interest, as one of the names you have mentioned is our client. Syntelli Solutions was the largest reseller of Tableau Software last year and are seeing huge growth in our Spotfire practice.

I agree with your observation on Advanced Analytical capabilities, which will eventually be the differentiator between a visualization product VS a true analytical product. Our clients see a lot of value from visualization, but once they get the insight into story the data is telling, they want to do deeper analytics, predictive work with the tool. I am promising you that the leading vendors either have statistical capabilities or will be baking these features soon.

We should connect ometime.

When it comes to managing data, donít look at backup and archiving systems as burdens and cost centers. A well-designed archive can enhance data protection and restores, ease search and e-discovery efforts, and save money by intelligently moving data from expensive primary storage systems.
