The article was indeed meant to be humorous, though it has some factual elements in terms of pegging Microsoft's typical business model in emergent markets. But the fact that the Microsoft product is patently inferior has never stopped them from owning competitive markets in the past.

I'm glad the article provoked a strong response from you, such was my intention.

Thanks for stopping in!

Very Humorous article! I certainly hope that was your intent!

You say," because the lack of a single industry-standard hypervisor platform is hurting the market from a standards and interoperability perspective."

That's what VMware is! Why are you complaining about/for something that already exists!

Microsoft gains market-share with individuals who don't understand how powerful a hyper-visor below (and independent from) the OS can be. If you just think it's a piece of software that sits on a server that maintains uptime and avoids Windows taking down your whole DC, yes that is a commodity.

Please take a course or do some reading on what is possible through a hyper-visor around security, BCDR, stretch metro clusters, automation, financial management, etc.

That will answer your question as to "Why Microsoft just can't steal this idea and give it away and win?"

Interesting perspective on the VMWare/HyperV relationship. The folks over at Unitrends had an equally as interesting response to your article. Here's a link to it, if you're interested. http://www.unitrends.com/blog/...
