Innovative idea
I think this idea is a great way for companies in a shrinking industry (more about the resort snowboarding decline) to increase customer interest, engagement, and subsequent loyalty. Not sure about publishing straight to social media (I hate auto-publishing apps; *I* want to choose what people see about me), but I love data and the excitement of figuring how far I'd skiied and at what velocity would be enough for me to share to my friends. Cool idea, well written article too!

re: Vail Resorts App Links The Mountains To Facebook
If you want to survive in 2012 then you should use different social media platform just like Vail Resorts because people are more mature and they are using social media platform more as compared to 2000. I have seen several companies who are using social media and also implementing successfully. They know the social media power in this and coming years.

re: Vail Resorts App Links The Mountains To Facebook
Bravo and hats off to Vail Resorts for catapulting their business into the 20th century along with utilizing social media as part of their plan of attack. It always make time smile when I hear or see of a company successfully implementing social media into their business plan. They have discovered the power of social media and have implemented technology at every turn that they could possibly change. From saving money on skiers trying to gain free access to the lifts to keeping track of your vertical feet! It makes me want to slap on my skies and go test some technology...anyone down for some field testing involving skis?
