Yes, we couldnt agree more ! It is really a big racket.Microsoft is the leader of the pack who has made sucker out of all PC users with coulntless versions of their windows year after year. If only Google now helps ordinary users , not only enterprise, to lead a life without Microsoft, by using Linux based open operating platforms for PCs without having to shell out that toll money we pay to windows. Thank God, free Android has saved at least mobile computer users . Let us hope that with increased shift to Mobile, we may be able to live without windows.

There is a larger potential for vendor lockin with cloud applications, unless there is a way to export your data out of the cloud efficiently. Plus, the upgrades and application downtime happen on the vendor's schedule unless they can guarantee no downtime, or you can influence the vendor's schedule. And, while you may not pay maintenance per-se, you are probably renting the application, and when you stop paying, you stop getting access.

Paul captured Fried's keynote. The lesson for IT here is that the old ways of doing business: handing out used laptops, rigid rules for which apps, spending 80% of your budget on upkeep is simply not going to work anymore.
