Doug is right about Fusion's metamorphosis into a cloud story. OracleWorld, et al are largely cheerleading events and this article does a good job digging beneath the glitz.

re: Oracle Open World: 6 Rants and Raves
Before somebody comments, there's no disputing that embracing SOA turned out to be a good thing for Oracle in later adpating Fusion for cloud delivery, but the point is that's not what they had in mind in 2004 or, I suspect, 2008. The 2005 news story linked above has Phillips saying that Project Fusion "won't be a big bang, three- or four-year project." Instead it turned into a six year project. I suspect the delays were about late efforts to revamp Fusion for cloud delivery. But that would have been in 2009 or 2010. It wasn't released until 2011, and lots of elements of the suite still don't seem to be ready. --Doug Henschen

IT's Reputation: What the Data Says
InformationWeek's IT Perception Survey seeks to quantify how IT thinks it's doing versus how the business really views IT's performance in delivering services - and, more important, powering innovation. Our results suggest IT leaders should worry less about whether they're getting enough resources and more about the relationships they have with business unit peers.
