Before somebody comments, there's no disputing that embracing SOA turned out to be a good thing for Oracle in later adpating Fusion for cloud delivery, but the point is that's not what they had in mind in 2004 or, I suspect, 2008. The 2005 news story linked above has Phillips saying that Project Fusion "won't be a big bang, three- or four-year project." Instead it turned into a six year project. I suspect the delays were about late efforts to revamp Fusion for cloud delivery. But that would have been in 2009 or 2010. It wasn't released until 2011, and lots of elements of the suite still don't seem to be ready. --Doug Henschen

Doug is right about Fusion's metamorphosis into a cloud story. OracleWorld, et al are largely cheerleading events and this article does a good job digging beneath the glitz.
