Google's consumer-first focus notwithstanding, it's surprising that it was caught so "flat-footed" on the brand front. Business presence on Facebook and Twitter is almost becoming mainstream (if it isn't already); you'd think Google would have noted that and launched Google+ with that functionality from the get-go.
