It's nice to see Meaningful Use putting some pressure on some sort of interoperability. With the requirement of having to notify outside groups, EHRs will get pressure from their customers to have a way to automate that process. Without interoperability, providers will have to pay staff to manually assemble and send the information... a cost that most providers will like push back against.
