re: NFL Uses EHRs To Tackle Player Injuries
The NFL implementation is (imho) an excellant working model of how the vision for a digital integrated health care system is supposed to work.

You have all aspects of the technology in play - so to speak - from local EMR, mobile devices, centralized database, imaging, HIE like connectivity between all sites, medical device connectivity, etc. Furthermore, they are showing (via additional video and sensor input) how the complete dataset can be analyzed to improve treatment options and to identify preventative measures that can be taken.

I think this is something to watch more closely so that we learn from the program and take these ideas into other areas of the medical field. It is very much like Indy or Cart racing, or NASA, where a high level program ultimately generates many benefits for society as a whole.

re: NFL Uses EHRs To Tackle Player Injuries
I find it reassuring that the NFL has taken such strides in ensuring player safety. A universal EHR system across all teams will allow players to get the help they need after their injuries. The idea of putting sensors in their gear to measure the levels of hits, injuries, etc. could also transition into the consumer market and provide valuable data for people in other high-risk situations.
