re: EHRs Can Thwart Prescription Drug Abuse, Says Study
Another fine example of how data centralization and interoperability between systems can be beneficial to society and patients. By syncing the PDMPs together, physicians will be able to spot prescriptions made at other states or systems easily before filling out a prescription to a possible abuser. To really drive this forward, data will have to be made available in real time and system registration must be made easy; both of which are barriers to using this system currently.

The story says:
"A workgroup of ONC's Health IT Policy Committee, an external advisory body, is looking at whether the stage 3 Meaningful Use requirements should include a provision dealing with prescription drug abuse."
Not sure about this. Docs are struggling to keep up with current MU requirements. And many are dropping out. ONC may be expecting too much too soon.
