Some do practice it -- Richard Thomas at Quintiles or Tom Conophy at InterContinental Hotels. Anyone trying to must escape the grasp of legacy systems and get to a more simplified infrastructure, so they don't spend all your time patching creaky systems. Charlie Babcock

CIOs as technology hubs versus technology hoarders. Well said! CIOs must become influencers whose expertise is sought after by business service consumers who are otherwise only a click away from making independent technology decisions that may or may not be optimal for the enterprise.
