I was hoping to see the importance of education and social media training mentioned as a critical component of both a social media initiative and as part of the team functions you covered. Enterprise adaptation and culture shifts succeed to the degree that these teams include a strong emphasis on training and education as a consistent foundational piece of the overall strategy. Training not in just how to use social media tools, but how social media is applied to a user's specific business goals as well as that of the overall organization.

Frankly, both. And actually, revenue producing ideas and social media analysis aren't two separate things. See how T-mobile USA cut customer defections in half in a single quarter by analyzing social media and their own CRM records in my overview here...

I wonder: Should expensive data scientists be tasked with figuring out the meaning of some buzz on Twitter or other social media channel, or would their time be better spent looking for insights in revenue-producing parts of the business?
