re: Optimization Is Key To Federal Data Center Overhaul
Mr. Hoover brings up a good point too often ignored. How do agencies make their ever shrinking data centers more productive to meet mission needs? With over 70% of the federal IT budget spent on legacy systems, and, with the increasing threat of sequestration or other significant budget cuts G how do we increase the capabilities of the systems currently in place? One answer for many mainframe-based data centers is to modernize. Modernizing your mainframe can allow technicians and developers to code on new languages, identify non-working, unneeded or duplicative code, create stepping stones to make the mainframe ready for virtualization or the cloud G all while often creating cost savings in year one. We should be working to extend the capabilities and life of current federal systems during this austere budget environment, rather than remain enamored by the Gǣshiny, newGǥ tools to hit the technology market.
