I wouldn't go so far as to say there aren't any successful EHRs, but perhaps there aren't any GǣperfectGǥ EHRs . You can find EHRs with interoperability and some clinical decision support, but itGs still early in the game and both have yet to be perfected.

The majority of EMR providers are hesitant to provide too much decision support, because it requires FDA 510k clearance. Most people don't realize that the EMR systems that underpin the entire hospital have not been through the 510k process at all.

C. Peter Waegemann makes 2 important points: EHRs should have clinical decision support built in. That's a no-brainer in my opinion. But he also wants to see point to point interoperability, as opposed to HIEs. Isn't that what the Direct Project is all about?
