re: Google Maps Spurs iOS 6 Adoption
Sometimes it's impossible to draw a concrete line between cause and effect. I can personally say that I know of 6 people that updated to iOS only AFTER google maps was made available. It seems that this was the major driving force for them, and this article seems to back that up. Surely it'll be hard to bring up irrefutable evidence to support this, but it seems that at least at an anecdotal level this article seems to hold up (with my personal experience).

There is a GREAT book called "Damned Lies and Statistics" I suggest this author read. In the book they speak about how people will take ONE fact, often dubiously arrived at, to prove something to the exclusion of all else.

For me I can tell you, my wife and I this week bought two iPhone 5's as early Christmas gifts to ourselves. China's iPhone 5 went on sale...I think the number was 2 million sold over 2 days?

But the increase couldn't be "NEW" iOS 6 devices coming on line could it? Nawww....

What's truly sad here is in all the press and blogger regurgitation of this "cause and effect" claim not a single one of you has done any sort of analysis or even questioned the "we think" finding as anything other than fact. Truly sad!

Carry on!

Google should make better mobile apps and focus more on consistency. Their web apps and native apps are entirely different worlds. And that sucks big time.

They should start with Google Drive for iPad which is terrible. So much worse than the PC version. Luckily, I downloaded Appser for Google Docs and can run the Google Docs web app on the iPad with this third party app. Google was supposed to do this in the first place, but they only think on the ad money I guess...

yep, I held off ... in fact I'm waiting for raving reviews of GM on iOS6 before I adopt.
