Great piece, Doug! Lots of good stuff in here, most of which I agree with, especially what you say about configuration options and the need for simplified development approaches. I wonder what you think, though, about how organizations will battle security issues in 2013?

Seems to me that next generation application development will focus on resiliency security and reliability, from the ground up. It will no longer be acceptable to consider security as an after-thought and developers will need to build security features into applications from the start. Users will naturally gravitate towards the concept of GǣMy Cloud,Gǥ a safe and secure environment that caters for the specific requirements of their industry ecosystem.

"users naturally want reporting and dashboarding options right in the context of the apps they use every day." I agree with Doug on this point.
