re: SAP Moves Core Applications To Hana In-Memory Platform
"simply a matter of swapping out the underlying database," is going to take a whole lot more discussion in CIO land imho. SAP could do itself a lot of good by getting ten or so of its beta customers to talk, video and document their experience for all to follow. In any case the SAP approach is innovative and outdistances Oracle's still confusing (Exadata, TimesTen, license) mishmash.

I wonder if SAP projects how many of its customers are going to dismantle their underlying database (and hardware) for HANA. I know these things take time, and in the interest of industry competition it's exciting to see but it's hard to believe that customers will find doing this as trivial as Plattner stated.

Speaking of "dramatic simplification," SAP also has a rapid deployment solution for HANA. According to this Panorama Consulting report (http://Panorama-Consulting.com..., some SAP customers report being up and running with HANA in eight weeks. About me: http://bit.ly/UoILDg.

When it comes to managing data, donít look at backup and archiving systems as burdens and cost centers. A well-designed archive can enhance data protection and restores, ease search and e-discovery efforts, and save money by intelligently moving data from expensive primary storage systems.
