Hi Lorna, thanks for the question. I'm not sure about all the automakers but Ford's platform connects to smartphone apps and, I believe, harnesses the handset's mobile connection. That said, the SDK allows the phone to engage with in-vehicle electronics, and some of the cars have additional features that the phone might be able to leverage. There was a truck at CES, for example, that has a 3G chip that can be used to generate a hot spot. I sent Ford an email, though, asking for more details. I'll add another post to this thread when they respond.
