Insightful article. I particlarly agree with the collaboration bulletpoint. Companies are partnering more and more with the public sector and with each other to offer the best applications and solutions at an affordable price.

I would say this is spot on, especially the part about the Self-service BI. My favorite business intelligence software is vendor is Lavastorm Analytics - http://www.lavastorm.com

There latest version of the Lavastorm Analytics Engine adds a range of functions and benefits for business users who want a better insight of their data,

Regarding mobile BI, questions that need to be asked: Are todayG«÷s mobile user needs different or changing? Are mobile devices G«£just another BI clientG«•? Rather, itG«÷s all about delivering context-appropriate information in a digestible and actionable form. Users want more than relevant numbers and reports or analytics G«Ű they also want intelligent content and context-relevant content (such as sales presentations, images, videos and alerts). The want guided navigation through structured data delivered to them in a highly consumable and actionable way G«Ű delivered at the point of interaction and need. Are new mobile table-based interactions changing the paradigm from G«£business intelligenceG«• to G«£intelligent information deliveryG«•?

I think the "self-service" BI is a particularly interesting concept, with tremendous potential applications in insurance and banking.

I'm with Cindi on vendors "hopping on bandwagons" and checking boxes "without a clear vision or passion." The tell-tale sign that new products/capabilities aren't genuine is that you never get a follow-up story about a customer putting that option/feature to use.
